Elisabeth (Liz) Lauffer is a German-English literary translator based in the US. She received a B.A. in German Studies from Wesleyan University and Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her career in literary translation began in 2014, when she won the Gutekunst Prize for Emerging Translators.
In addition to her book publications, Liz’s translations have been excerpted in The New Yorker, The Paris Review and Asymptote. A current jury member for the Helen & Kurt Wolff Translation Prize, she has also participated in the ViceVersa Translation Workshop at Übersetzerhaus Looren, Frankfurt International Translators program, KulturKontakt Austria Artists-in-Residence program, Art OMI: Writers Translation Lab and Literary Colloquium of Berlin summer academy.
